The Bassa Action Group (BAG) was founded in response to Bassa citizens abroad - especially in the United States desire to directly participate in the socio-economic process that would led to the development of the county following our fifteen year civil war. In 2005, the group met for the first time in the USA and developed a frame work that would support a Bassa Development Council founded in December 2005 in the county. The Council’s membership was drawn from the Clergy, market women, Students, Teachers, politicians and district representatives. Its chief objectives, among others were to mobilize Bassa citizens both at home and abroad and seek resources that would enhance the county’s development.
Although the Bassa Development Council is not currently moving on with its proposed plans following the election of the present government , the Bassa Action Group continues to engaged the county’s developmental process at the following levels:
- Support Educational programs at all levels by providing hundreds of classroom chairs to schools
- Form a Sanitation and environmental group that participates in cleaning exercises
- Meets periodically with county officials and discuss ideas that would lead to the alleviation of poverty and disease
-Send representative periodically to explore new areas of engagement and monitor the progress of projects being implemented
To enhance BAG’s projects, A Bassa Action group has also been Established in Grand Bassa County Headed by Rev. Daniel Messlish and Titus Zeogar. The Bassa Action Group also work alongside the Zoe Memorial project which sponsors young women in High Schools in the county. Currently the Bassa Action Group is working with the District Development Council (DDC) of Wazon, number three Compound. The district Commissioner, Mr. James Forkay Horace has been appointed the consultant for BAG’s village projects.
